  • What exactly are the off-limit foods for Vegans?

I know that you're not supposed to eat any meat at all, including fish, as well as no products that come from animals including eggs and dairy. Is there anything else you're supposed to avoid when going full-on Vegan?

Honestly, for strict Vegans I think if it comes from an animal you just don't have anything to do with it. You don't eat or wear anything animal-related. So it's not just a matter of watching what you eat, but also what you wear.

There are actually several things that Vegan's can't eat aside from the obvious meat, fish, dairy and eggs. For instance, certain sugars, like refined sugar is white because bone char is used in the process of making it. Also, marshmallows and anything that contains gelatin is made from collagen and is an animal by-product. Furthermore, lots of candies are made with ingredients the come from bugs. For instance, lots of red candies get their color from red pigments of a female cochineal insect. Any time you come across ingreideints listed as "cochineal" "chaminic acid" or "carmine"
      Many salad dressings contain anchovy

Yeah, okay, wow. Gotta say I wasn't expecting that many foods were off limits either Paplo! I'm kinda glad I asked. Thanks for pointing all that out freddyboy and thanks of the link. So, it looks like they don't eat anything that is or comes from a living creature. I had no idea they didn't eat bugs nor did I realize that they used stuff from bugs to make gumballs shiney or to dye things red....I don't think I'm ever going to look at candy the same way again hahaha.

Essentially, for hardcore Vegans anotoniojones1968, if it's got a heartbeat, they don't eat it. If the product came from something with a heartbeat (whether it resulted in the death of the animal or not) they don't eat it.
