  • vegan or vegetarian?

I'm wondering which one is better for weight loss. Becoming a vegetarian seems simpler, but if going vegan will make you lose weight faster, I'd rather know that before I make my decision.

I think that going vegan would lead to more weight loss because you don't just cut out meat but also any products that come from animals like dairy. Milk, cheese, butter, etc. which are typically high in fat.

You are likely to lose more weight following a Vegan diet. That said, it is a lot harder to follow and you'll need to make sure that you're getting the proper nutrients you need to maintain your body's health.

In your case it sounds like the answer would be vegetarian. If you think that becoming a vegetarian will be more practical for you than going vegan, that's the one that will help you lose weight. There's not sense taking on a super strict diet like vegan if you know that you'll never follow it and eventually fail. Choose a diet that is realistic for you. Going vegan (or even vegetarian) isn't for everyone. Eating smart and healthy doesn't mean you have to cut out all meat from your diet. Eat sensibly, limit the bad stuff, and concentrate on eating more whole foods, fresh produce and whole grains. You don't need to become vegetarian or vegan to do that.

Definitely Vegan because you cut out dairy. That said, neither one of these diet lifestyles will help you lose weight if you're not committed to them. They are way harder to follow than you think. You'll need to get used to eating a lot of the same things or learn how to become very creative. It takes a lot of thought and research to stay healthy on these diets, because it's easy to miss out on nutrients that you need, especially protein if you're used to getting it from meat or other animal products. If you are serous about becoming either Vegetarian or Vegan, consult a dietitian.
