  • What are good fats for vegetarians?

    What fats do you eat when you're a vegetarian? Can these fats cause weight gain or is it just fats in meat that do that?

    olive oil, canola oil, sesame oil, avacado, olives, peanut butter, flaxseed, walnuts, and tofu are all good fats that you can eat when you are a vegetarian. It's easy to incorporate these foods into your diet. The trick is to not overdo it, because it's easy to consume too much oil, for instance, and not think nothing of it.

      In addition, other good fats are soymilk, sunflower, pumpkin and sesame seeds, corn oil, and fatty fish like tuna, salmon, herring, sardines, mackerel, and trout. Eat a mix of fats. Don't just stick to one type. Variety is important to keeping your body and your weight healthy and balanced.

        Everyone else pretty much answered your question about food sources that offer good fats, so I'll answer your other question. Yes. These fats can also cause weight gain, particularly if they are eaten in large amounts or you eat too many of them in a day. While good fat is definitely better for you than bad fat, it's still fat and can lead to weight gain if you're not mindful of your eating.

          Thanks for all he information. There are a lot more good fats than I realized. I guess it makes sense that they can cause weight gain, but does anyone know how much is too much when it comes to these fats? Like, if I ate nuts everyday, is that too much?

            What are good fats for vegetarians

            Ive discovered myself being disgusted with meat. Ive been trying to go vegetarian for a little over a year, but every time I try to come out as a vegetarian, my family will make some off handed comment about how stupid vegans/vegetarians are. I know its stupid, but Im slightly scared as to what my family would say if I told them I want to become vegetarian. I try to eat as little meat as possible, but every once in a while they will guilt me into eating this wonderful food your father slaved over and sometimes the only thing they make is meat, meat, meat, and more meat Im tired of it. Do you have any suggestions on what to do with my situation? Thanks

              That sucks that your family doesn't support you, but you got to do what's right for you. Perhaps inform your family of your interest in becoming a vegetarian and explain to them your reasons for choosing this lifestyle. They may not agree with it, but providing them with more understanding could be helpful in them being a little more supportive.
