Is eating vegetarian or vegan better for the environment? If so, how is it better?

It is and it isn't. In regard to cutting down the impact meat-eating has on the environment, yes, it's definitely better. That being said, the less you buy locally, the worse it is for the environment.

It is more environmentally friendly to be vegan or vegetarian or to simply just eat less meat. Mass-producing animal farming take a lot of energy and pollutes the land, lakes, oceans, rivers and air. It is a serious ecological problem that is accelerating climate change. Beyond that, the conditions in which the animals for slaughter are kept is abysmal in most cases and a lot of meat you eat is just unclean, and isn't necessarily the animal that you think you're eating. The whole meat industry is corrupt and really gross. Honestly, just watch one documentary about ti and you'll find yourself questioning the food you eat....

Oh, interesting. I never thought about that. I guess if you don't buy stuff locally it can actually be worse for the environment, even if you do stop eating meat...

Overall it is better for the environment, but it can be damaging, too, like anything else. I wouldn't worry so much about what its doing to the environment but what it will do for you. There is both good and bad in everything. Make the choice you can live with and that makes the most sense to your life and values.
