I'm trying to lower the amount of salt I eat so I've stopped adding it to the foods I cook and eat but I'm finding everything is tasting really bland I know that over time my tastebuds will get used to it (at least I hope so!) but what can I add to food that will give it some flavor? I've heard that adding spice is a good idea, but I'm not a huge spice fan, especially not the ultra hot stuff. Can anyone recommend some spice or other flavors that might give my food some pop? Thanks!

Try adding a bit of ginger, either fresh or ground ginger is good. Just make sure you add a little to start. Ginger can be quite powerful. It's good for you and will give your food a bit of zip. I incorporate it in a lot of meals, especially any Asian cuisine and stirfrys!

Buy some fresh herbs. You might find that when you add some parsley, oregano, and basil into the mix, the flavors will really alter. If you want something with zing or tang, try adding a small amount of hot pepper, like jalapeno. Just make sure to wash your hands after handling the insides of the pepper, because I forgot to do that once and touched my eyes...WORST MISTAKE EVER! Also, it's the seeds of hot peppers that are super hot.
