  • How to cook a pumpkin

I’ve always carved a pumpkin at around Halloween time, but I’ve never actually eaten one before. Since they’re so cheap at this time of year, I have decided to get shopping and buy one and learn to cook it. Does anyone have any recipes that they can share that use pumpkin. No pie, please. I’m hoping for a way to eat it as a part of a dinner.

Cut it into pieces (after scooping out the "guts) and add a touch of nutmeg, maple syrup, olive oil, and balsamic vinegar. Very yummy when baked.

bake it with a touch of butter and then shred it with forks. It comes out looking like spaghetti strands

What do you mean like spaghetti strands? Are they long and thin? Will they hold their integrity so you can actually use them as funky noodles in an alternative kind of dish. You have me very curious about what that means because it sounds like it has a lot of potential for doing something really creative at dinnertime. I'm thinking ahead for thanksgiving.

If you want to do somethign that tastes amazing and that is just a little bit of a treat for you and that won’t really be something that you can have all of the time then you should batter it in tempura/panko crumbs and then just pan fry it or deep fry it. Yes, that’s a high fat thing and it has a lot of calories, but if you just do it as a treat and don’t have it regularly then it is something that you’ll really be able to enjoy. Pumpkin is amazing when it’s tempura battered and crunchy on the outside but soft in the middle.
