Hi everyone. The other day I read in passing somewhere that the raw food diet is nutritionally deficient. Is this true? I thought it was one of the healthier ways to eat. Can anyone explain?

Raw Food Diet is Nutritionally Deficient?

I agree with Britt, there are food that must be eaten raw to get the most nutrients out from the product but there are some food that must be cooked in order to avoid diseases such as salmonella, cholera, etc.
Vegetables by nature are best eaten raw but make sure that you have washed it well to avoid gulping even the chemicals sprayed on the plants. chemicals such as fertilizers, pesticides, and the like can cause GI distress as well as damage other organs even the brain, so again be careful when eating vegetables raw. To make sure that you have washed it well, soak vegetables in lukewarm water for 30 minutes, wash it in running water afterwards before eating. If possible, buy products that are grown with the help of organic fertilizers to lessen the amount of chemicals.
Fish, poultry, pork and other meat products must be cooked because bacteria are present after the animal has been slaughtered. The heat will help kill the bacteria that can cause diseases and illnesses to human. There are fish that are deliciously prepared raw but make sure that the product is fresh and that you have washed it well enough to minimize the bacteria content of the food.
