I was wondering, is it better to get vitamins from natural food sources or is it better for you to obtain them via supplements. In other words, is it better for me to eat an orange or should I take a vitamin C supplement so I avoid the sugar and calories that the orange gives me?

I'm not a scientist but I would think that if you can get the nutrients from fresh sources it's like a lot better for you than substances that have been cold pressed or dried and ground into powder, etc. Personally when I buy fruits and vegetables I try to eat them fast and whatever I don't eat I freeze quickly to preserve their quality. I always love it at this time of year when its warmer and I can buy locally grown food. It tastes better and I know its healthier!

I think it's better to go natural, too. But sometimes you just can't do that and supplements are the next best option. Just remember that some supplements are better than others. Investigate the companies you pick and talk to your pharmacist. Usually they can point you in the right direction. Also remember that if you are going to use supplements make sure you take the proper dosage.

personally I think supplements are better. I think you should eat whole foods, too, but the trouble with fresh fruits and vegetables is that unless you're growing them yourself and eating them as soon as you pick them, they start to lose their nutrients. So the sooner you can eat the fruits and vegetables you buy, the better.
