  • The effects of weather

I'm curious about something..well a couple of somethings. One - does the weather change your appetite or is that all in your head? I swear I find it so much easier to eat healthy when it's hot out. Two - do you need different type of nutrition at different times of the year? Is that why we crave different foods during different seasons?

I think the weather does change your appetite. When it's cold, you crave warmer foods that are also typically high in fat. That said, the body doesn't know that you're not trying to survive in a harsh climate. It doesn't know that you're spoiled and can eat whatever you want when you want it. Therefore, it's up to you to make the right choices and not listen to your instincts all the time. When it comes to weight loss, you've got to exercise and watch the number of calories you eat all year round, no matter what season it is or what the weather is doing.

I think the weather definitely effects us and I think that you do crave certain foods because your body wants them. I don't think that's a bad thing but at the same time, yeah, you still need to watch your calories, no matter what time of the year it is. If you eat more calories in the winter you will gain weight, just as you will if you do it in summer, spring or fall. So, yeah, you can change your diet, but you shouldn't change the number of calories you eat or reduce your exercise, especially if you're trying to lose weight or maintain weight loss.

You don't need different types of nutrition unless you're going to be roughing it in the wilderness for the winter. Stick to the diet that works for you as much as you can and allow yourself a few treats that you might be craving. Try not to let your cravings dictate what you eat.

That makes a lot of sense...still you would think that after years of evolution or even just for the years I've been alive that my bod would know that i don't need to have tons of calories when it gets colder. It's just so strange how we crave different things and different times of the year. And I don't just mean the obvious cold and hot, but its like our tastebuds even change. It's annoying. That said, I do get that you have to watch your calories year round cause, yeah, my body apparently doesn't know its spoiled lol. Guess I should think of it as a spoiled child and my brain is the parent. It needs to lay down the law LOL

LOL! Yup, exactly. Your body is a spoiled child. You need to be the one to say "no" and know what's best for it. It's okay to give it a treat every once in a while, but, ultimately, your job is to make sure that it is getting what it needs to be strong and healthy.

LOL that's a funny way to look at it but also quite accurate. Still, I definitely think we naturally crave different things at different times of the year. I say go with your cravings but do your best to keep it healthy, keep watching those calories, and make sure you stay active!
