  • You Are What You Eat - book

    Hi All!

I got the cookbook "You Are What You Eat" by Dr. Gillian McKeith for Christmas and am looking over the recipes and though they look extremely healthy, they also look like a lot of work and have a lot of ingredients in them that I've never used before (mung beans???).

Does anyone know if Dr. McKeith is any good and if the recipes will be worth my while? I'm willing to put in the effort if I know it'll get me somewhere.

I personally liked some of the recipes in that book. I was really into the show and I bought it a while back. The mung bean casserole is a huge amount of work and is only so-so (and goodness help you if you don't soak those beans for a really long time because they never soften up when cooking).

The whole book is worth it for the adzuki bean burgers!

I followed this book while I was going through an extreme health kick. I liked it because it was not only healthy but it was also vegetarian. I do admit that it was a huge amount of work for each recipe. What I liked about the book, though, was that if you follow enough of the recipes, you learn about a lot of ingredients you may never have even heard of before, and you learn how to prepare them properly. Then, if you're like me, you can move on and use them in recipes that are much simpler to make and in a lot less time.

This isn't just a cookbook. I think that the methods outlined in this book are pretty sketchy. It recommends a cleanse at the beginning that is the equivalent to a starvation diet to me. Then it doesn't have a single bit of meat or dairy throughout all of its recipes
