Which is more effective: A diet program through a book like Atkins or one through an actual organization like Weight Watchers?

I think it depends on who you are. I personally prefer the books. That way, I can read the whole thing at my pace and can follow parts of different books that I find useful.
For example, one diet might be good but an exercise program from another might be better. If I combine, I get the best of both worlds.

I like the programs a lot more than the books. If I get a program, then I've spent the money and I have people there to tell me what to do, and possibly products to help me along the way.
I have a lot of books for weight loss and I can honestly say that I've never read one of them all the way through, and I've never followed one of them to the letter.

I think that the appeal depends on the book or the diet program itself. I've tried diets in both categories that are very good and very bad.
If a book is badly written, of course you won't get past the first page. But if a diet program of another sort is a nuisance or is too difficult, then you won't keep up with that either.
Just keep trying until you find the one for you!
