  • ! diet or several

Do you think it is more likely to lose weight and keep it off if you follow one diet or several?

For instance, if you started with a detox or elimination diet first and then once that was over you worked on following a more long-term diet like the Mediterranean diet or the Step diet or one of those that enforces regular portion control and exercise do you think it would be easier to lose weight?

I'm wondering if it might. While I'm not a fan of detoxes and I don't believe in them as a long-term solution for weight loss, if you were to restrict your calories for a brief period, it may be easier to transition to a diet that requires you to eat lower portions since you'd be more willing to follow it after detoxing?

    What do you guys think?

I get what you're saying Treehuggertodd but I think that it would be better to stick with one really good diet than to do some extreme diet first and then follow it up with a better one.

Actually you might be on to something treehuggertodd. That is a good question. It does seem to make sense that if you began your dieting with a highly restricted diet for a couple of weeks but then switched to one that was less intense, like the Mediterranean, maybe it would be easier to make the necessary lifestyle changes and stick to them!

One diet makes the most sense for most people, I think anyway. But we're all different. Maybe instead of just following on diet plan, multiple ones will work for you. Mostly, it's about finding the right commitment and sticking to it. As long as you achieve weight loss and you're healthy about it, that's all that you can ask for, right?

Why in the world would you want to follow several diets? That just sounds like a problem waiting to happen. You'd be setting yourself up for failure right from the start!

Find a diet that works for you and stick to it. That's what will work. Weight loss takes commitment. Plain and simple.

You wouldn't necessarily being setting yourself up for failure. The point I was attempting to make was that different dieting techniques may work for different people. I'm not a proponent of fad dieting, detoxes or following multiple diets at once.

That being said, I do agree with you that weight loss - no matter the technique you use - does take commitment.
