  • best websites for legitimate diet info

I have been trying to find really great website resources that will allow me to find dieting information that isn't somehow geared toward selling a specific product or technique. So far, I have the Mayo Clinic, which is amazing, but can anyone recommend anything else?

PS - please don't just take the opportunity to spam your website here. I really am looking for great healthy resources. Thanks!

Government websites are always a pretty good bet. Department of health information isn't linked to selling anything. You can also find out a lot about what has been banned or that is considered hazardous by using the FDA website. These are great because they're actually not allowed to specifically say "Product A is good because...". Instead, they have to remain a lot more impartial. I find that this site and the Mayo Clinic, that you already use, are great complements to one another.

You can always try the official sites for the products you're considering. They will be stilted in a positive direction, of course, but at least you can see what the "official" claims are. Some sites also have links to studies about the ingredients. If you actually follow the links you can read the study and see if there were actually worthwhile findings or if they just studied it for something completely unconnected.

Did anyone say webmd yet? That's a very good and informative site. I don't know if they're selling anything, but if they are, they're very subtle about it. They provide very good info.

You should be careful of any website that you see. Some of them look legit but they're not. It's really best that you use them all like general information but if you really want to get the real information the best place for you to go is to your doctor's office.

I don't mean that none of the information you find online is good, but without expertise, it is impossible to tell what is accurate and what is stilted in one direction or another.

There are a lot of really good youtube videos that I've found very helpful in learning about dieting and other tips and strategies. I find that its' especially good for recipes because the person actually shows you how to make it like it's a cooking show. That makes it much easier than trying to follow a recipe from a book - especially when its' something unlike anything you've ever cooked before, since you'll be able to see how it looks. I was getting to the point that I wouldn't even use recipes without a picture. Now I'm starting to do only recipes that come with a video!
