  • Calories vs nutrients

I’m trying to lose weight in a healthy way, but often I’m faced with the choice between healthier foods or lower calorie foods. For example, technically a glass of milk has more calories and fat in it than a glass of pop, but obviously milk is healthier, and I read somewhere that milk has some beneficial properties for weight loss.

How do I make the decision?

Try to find a balance between the two. For example, a lot of products that have a lot of nutrients but that have higher calories/fat (milk, for example) have lower fat alternatives (1% or skim, for example).

Try to find the high nutrient foods that are also low in calories, instead of trying to choose one over the other. Virtually every nutrient you need can be found in a diet-friendly food that will still let you lose weight, so there’s really no reason to have to choose one over the other. The trick is to do your homework and keep yourself informed about the nutrition content in your foods. Keep your veggies varied and high because that’ll have you covered on most levels.

That's a good way to say it. That's really the best way to go about managing the two. They're both essential, but you have to balance them properly, but also pay attention because as your body changes, so will it's needs :)
