  • Foods to prevent muscle loss

I know that exercising (such as strength training) can help prevent muscle loss. But are there any foods that can help with this, too? I'm really worried that I'm not as strong as I used to be and I don't want to put myself at greater risk of injury because of a loss of muscle. Any suggestions?

eggs, lean meat, soybeans, green yogurt, tuna, salmon and chicken breast are just some of the foods that are helpful in building lean muscle. Essentially, foods that are high in protein (Healthy foods) are great options for helping you to build and preserve lean muscle. Just remember that exercise is essential, too.

Taking a protein supplement might be helpful here, too, but only if you take it appropriately...otherwise, you could just end up adding way more calories to your diet than you need which can lead to fat gain!

Essentially, amp up on the lean protein and avoid high fats and garbagey foods. You need to provide your body with the right kind of energy and match this energy with the right type of workouts to build muscle. Just remember that if you don't exercise (strength training) no amount of lean protein is going to help you preserve your muscle. You either use it or lose it.

Really? Protein supplements can cause weight gain?

Yup! They're really meant for body builders and people who want to increase muscle mass. They are high in calories. If you are going to take them, you need to make sure that you pay attention to the calorie content and include it in your daily caloric intake. Otherwise, if you don't use this stuff properly, you can totally pack on the pounds.
