  • Calcium supplements and heart health

Recently I head bout studies have that have found that taking calcium supplements might not be good for your heart. This concerns me because there are some important women in my life who take calcium supplements on a daily basis to help combat osteoporosis. While there isn't enough clinical evidence to prove that these supplements could be bad for the heart, the fact that more studies are finding that excess calcium in the form of supplements may harm the heart or vascular system, is quite alarming in my opinion.

I just wanted to share this, in case anywhere here finds this of interest. Calcium Supplements May Not Be Heart Healthy

Yikes! That sound scary! I never heard about this. Thanks for sharing it! I want to ask my doctor about this. I've been on calcium supplements for a couple of years now...

Wow that is disturbing news. Have their been reports of people actually suffering from cardiovascular effects or is this just something that they're discovering. What are some good ways to receive calcium aside from milk, if that's the case?

Aside from milk, great foods to eat to obtain the calcium your body needs include cheese, yogurt, oranges, dark leafy greens, bok choy, almonds, canned fish with their bones. It's actually really easy to obtain the calcium you need in a day without supplements.
