I’ve had problems with pimples for years. I’m not one of the lucky people who magically grew out of the problem. I can treat my skin with creams and face washes and things, but I’m looking for a more long-term and healthier solution. Does anyone know if there is a diet I can follow or can they recommend any other tips that might help to stop breakouts? I’m kinda hoping I’ll be able to clear up my skin issues and maybe even lose a bit of weight while I’m at it.

While altering your diet might not take away your pimple problem completely, it definitely will help. When you eat well, especially a diet that is rich in anti-inflammatory and anti-oxidants foods, you'll help to keep your skin happier. Drinking water makes a huge difference, too. I would recommend trying a diet like the Mediterranean diet to start and seeing how that goes. This diet should help you to lose or manage your weight and may help to clear up your skin a bit too. Just remember that it will likely be a couple of months before you see any real improvement though. Don't expect overnight miracles.

Yes. Eating a diet that is higher in whole grains, vegetables and beans and one that is lower in refined sugar and complex carbohydrates (white pasta, bread, rice, etc.) can help to reduce breakouts. Exercise can also be good. This not only cuts down on the weight but also on your stress. Stress can trigger breakouts. Also, do drink more water (not exorbitant amounts) as this can help flush out toxins from your body.

The saying "you are what you eat" does actually have some truth to it. Essentially, if you eat healthy foods, your skin will be healthy. If you eat junk, your skin is going to respond in kind. Personally, I think if you up the amount of veggies, fruits and whole grains that you eat and cut out as much refined sugar as possible, you'll likely notice a huge difference in your skin.

A healthy diet will definitely help to make a difference, but keep in mind that it's only one part of your plan to keep your skin healthy. You're likely still going to need to use topical treatments or some other kind of therapy/treatment to help deal with the problem beyond your diet.

It may help, but don't expect that by changing your diet you'll suddenly have flawless skin. If you have acne-prone skin, you've got a condition that isn't easily solved by changing your diet. I would honestly recommend you see a dermatologist (if you don't already) and discuss the various treatment options you can try.
