nicotine is what makes smoking addictive
hi jasmine
the reason that quitting smoking is so tough is two-fold. firstly, your body is addicted to nicotine. nicotine is the drug that is found in tobacco, which makes chemical changes in the brain. although nicotine does not cause the same changes in brain chemistry that heroin or cocaine does, nicotine is thought to be just as addictive.
secondly, in addition to a physical addiction to nicotine, most smokers also struggle with their emotional addiction to smoking when they wish to quit. this emotional addiction can be tied to many facets of their lives, particularly socializing and relaxing.
many habits become centered around smoking and even doing the simplest tasks, such as driving the car or going on a lunch break can trigger both an emotional and physical craving to smoke. despite these challenges, quitting smoking is probably the best thing you can do for your health. quitting smoking is very hard at the beginning, but once you have not smoked for a few weeks the cravings become much more manageable.
i quit smoking one and a half years ago, but even now i sometimes have the urge to smoke. i don't of course, but i think there will always be a little part of my brain that is addicted to smoking.
oh, and in my opinion there is nothing "cool" about smoking. when teens start rebelling many will try smoking, but this does not make them cool. what does make a person cool is if they treat their friends and family with love, respect, and kindness as best they can, and they don't abuse their body.

I saw something on TV today about smoking. One of the doctors explained that smoking is so addictive because inhaling cigarette smoke into the lungs is a rapid way to absorb nicotine and all those chemicals.
Does anyone know if chewing tabacco is as addictive as smoking?

I don't know why people smoke in the first place! I was taught by my parents never to try smoking since it can only destroy your body. I saw how it destroyed my grandpa's lungs. He was a chronic smoker for years and quit smoking during his early 50's but it has already damaged his lungs. When he was diagnosed of having cancer, I thought how just a single stick of cigarette per day can really shorten your lifespan.
It is hard to quit smoking but you have a choice whether or not to begin smoking in the first place so I suggest that you refrain from trying because it contains nicotine which is by nature, addictive. it's hard to quit smoking no matter how one says he'll try because his body is already depending on the cigarette for satisfaction. Beware, you wouldn't want to end up hospitalized leavign your family burdened with medical bills. Thus, be careful and think before you puff even just one stick.

I learned that chewing tobacco can indeed cause mouth or oral cavity cancer. It still contains the same tobacco component as cigarettes so it can cause alterations of the cells in our oral cavities. Keep in mind that any alteration of any cells in the body can lead to cancer. Preservatives, radiation, and some ingredients like tobacco and asbestos can all cause cancer if we are exposed long term. So i suggest that we all be careful in our body and be cautious on the things we expose it to. we cannot just be concerned with our weight, we need to be even more cautious with our health.

I quit smoking 5 years ago, with 10 years of smoking history. I did it the natural way, Just woke up one day and decided to quit smoking.
If you're having a hard time quitting, I suggest you try the electric cigarette. There's no nicotine entering your body and you still get satisfied with the act of smoking. That's just a suggestion, of course.
