  • Great pair of running shoes

I am looking for a really great pair of running shoes. I’ve tried to do some research online but there are so many options that I really can’t tell which ones are the right ones. I want to use them for running, jogging, and walking. They’re not really cross trainers. I won’t be using them for everything. I will be using them mostly for jogging and running so it’s just the one category that I need. I will be running on sidewalk primarily, and paved path.

Does anyone have a recommendation of something that they have actually tried and that they know is great. I don’t mind paying a bit more for a really great shoe but I don’t want to end up paying a fortune and only be moderately happy with what I get. Thanks everyone!

When you're looking for a shoe, you need to look for certain features, such as the right cushioning and stability, but when it comes down to the individual model, that depends on your precise foot so there's nobody who can tell you exactly which running shoe is the best one for you. Your unique foot shape will dictate which specific shoe fits in the right way and feels best.

If you will be running regularly then you can't cheap out or just settle for a shoe. You need to try on several makes and models and walk/jog around the store in them for a few moments.

Do this late in the day when your feet are naturally the most swollen. That way, it will help to mimic the swelling that your feet do after you've been running for a while and you'll know where there could be pressure points or areas where it could rub.

I've personally had a lot of luck with Nike and Reebok shoes. Those two brands seem to offer enough models that I can try a lot on and they have enough price ranges that there will always be one that suits me but that I can afford, too. I like their outlet stores. I don't prefer one over the other.

I find that stability is more important than cushioning. I have this great pair of runners that are comfortable for walking because they are so springy, but as soon as I start running, i feel like I'm on a bouncy castle. It's more important to feel stable while running.

Use a mirror. This may sound stupid, but even though your sneakers aren't really focused primarily on fashion, knowing how they look is a very good step for making sure that they fit you the way that you want.

You should try on the shoes in the store, walk around in them, run a little bit, but then stop in front of a mirror and have a look at the way that they are on your feet. Look how they seem to hit the ground as you walk. Stand in a relaxed stance in front of the mirror with your feet shoulder width apart. Do your feet look good or do they slope in or out? Your feet and ankles should look straight - perpendicular to the ground. If they seem to sag in or out, you might need a different kind of support. You might also consider talking to your doctor about proper orthotics if you can't seem to get shoes that correct your feet on their own.
