  • How overheated should you get?

I have a bit of a weird question about workouts to burn fat. I know that cardio is really the fat blaster, but when I really do cardio to my fullest I get extremely hot, I sweat like a pig, and my whole face and neck turn really red. I don’t mean a little pink, I mean really red. It takes me forever to cool down, even after a shower. Am I pushing things too hard? I don’t necessarily feel sore afterward. I can tell that I’ve had a workout but I don’t seem to strain anything. Is this a normal reaction to workouts?

You might just have skin that reacts to heat. If you're very fair then you might turn redder than people who have dark skin or olive skin. Try to stay hydrated, don't push yourself too far, and pay attention to the way that you feel. You're likely fine as long as you're not dizzy, weak, or anything like that.

Maybe you should talk to a profesioanl trainer or a doctor and see if you get overheated to a normal level

maybe you need to take it a bit easier than you have been doing so far. You might not be pushing yourself to your hardest but you might still want to slow down a little. You might also want to make sure that you're drinking enough water and aren't getting dehydrated.

Penny, are you feeling dizzy or light headed or do you have any other bad symptoms or is it just body temperature and flushing? It could just be the way that you react to exercise because you push yourself hard.

I feel the exact same way when I exercise. I have for my whole life, even when I was a pretty skinny teenager. When I was in gym class my face would turn into a tomato and I'd be about a million degrees. It took me forever to cool down. I hated that if I had a class afterward. It didn't matter if I showered, splashed my face with cold water, or drank gallons of water, I still stayed overheated for a while.

I get that feeling very easily. I can get it from mowing the lawn in the summertime. It just seems to be a reaction that I have to exercising. I don't normally get bothered by it in any other way, but if I don't stay hydrated enough or give myself moments to "calm" down, I can start getting a bit dizzy, so be careful!
