  • A light breakfast

I've never had a very big appetite for breakfast and all I hear is how you're supposed to get a really good breakfast to start your day and blah blah blah. While I don't think that you should skip breakfast, at the same time I don't think that it's necessary you have a big breakfast every day. Am I wrong about that?

I don't think it's necessary to have a big breakfast. I think you should definitely eat something, but you don't have to overdo it. Get a little protein and fiber in the morning from fruit and eggs, or something like that and you should be fine. I would avoid skipping breakfast altogether though, it really just sets you up to be really hungry later and you're more likely to eat foods with higher calories and fats.

I agree. I recently came back from Italy and the people there typically have a very light breakfast that consists of like a croissant and an espresso. Their major meal is dinner and they kind of snack for the rest of the day. And there were not a lot of people there who were overweight. So, I don't think you need to have a big breakfast, that said I think you need to give your body the energy it needs so you don't crash, increasing your risk of eating higher fat foods that will lead to more calories you're not burning off. If you are very active, you need more food, if you aren't so active, you don't. Hope that made sense!

I don't think you need a BIG breakfast, I think you need to eat the RIGHT breakfast for you. You should definitely eat something, even if it's just a boiled eggs, piece of whole grain toast and a bit of fruit. This isn't a lot of food but, it provides you with energy to get your metabolism going and prevents you from feeling like your starving before lunch, so you're less likely to eat bad snacks or a big and high-fat lunch.

If you have a hard time with breakfast, I recommend having smoothies in the morning or making your own healthy granola bars and having that. I'm really not a big breakfast eater either. Honestly, if I could, I would just have coffee all morning, but I know that's not the best thing to do, because it always means I'm starving by the time it's lunch. Eat light, if you have to, but eat something.
