That's very good advice, Jennet. Sometimes we need to read these things to remind ourselves that things aren't as bad as they seem.

A little bit of perspective can go a long way. Eating right, exercising, and giving yourself the right attitude can help to combat depression in a very effective way. Don't forget that talking to someone can also help. They may not be able to solve your problems, but a lot of times all it takes is the opportunity to express yourself and know that someone is there to feel like the world is a better place

Make sure the foods you eat don't contribute to depression, too

Meditation is best way to come out of depression. Do yoga exercises also.

As well as being essential for normal sleep, the feel good brain chemical serotonin helps to brighten your mood and control some types of depression. The amino acid tryptophan found in protein foods such as turkey, chicken, cauliflower, broccoli, milk, cheese, lean red meat, eggs, soya beans, fennel and bananas is needed for serotonin production.

You're right about that! One food I love to eat because it helps the body to produce serotonin is dark chocolate. I mean the very dark stuff that is 75 percent or higher in cocoa. It's very bitter and you only need a little square or two, so you don't have to worry about sending your calories through the roof. I find that if I eat that as my dessert after supper, then I feel more positive overall. Just don't eat it too close to bedtime because it does have a little hint of caffeine in it (it's low enough in that quantity that it would really only affect someone with a sensitivity to it, but those sensitivities are common).

I know you've probably heard this before, but exercise is a really great way to help to beat depression. I have battled with depression on and off for years, and if you force yourself to get up, get dressed, and go for a walk, you actually feel better afterward. The worst part of it is actually getting yourself out the door. Once you're out, things start looking a lot better.
