  • Don't be a distracted eater

When you eat your meals, pay attention to what you’re doing. Sure, you can enjoy them with the family or a friend, but don’t sit in front of the television or computer while you eat. You’ll eat a lot more food than you would if you were actually making the meal your main activity.

Even better, you’ll actually give yourself the chance to savor and enjoy your food. You’ll notice the tastes, smells, textures, etc. This will help you to eat less, but it will also encourage you to prepare better and more healthy and enjoyable meals, since you’ll actually notice the difference.

You're right. If I'm in front of a television, I'll just keep eating as long as the show keeps going. If I'm watching a half hour show, I'll eat that long. If it's an hour show, that's how long I'll eat. If it's a movie, I will just keep eating a meal, then even snacks immediately afterward.

If I eat at the table, where the primary purpose is eating, I'll eat a lot less. Even if I'm talking with someone, I still won't eat half as much as if I become a TV show zombie.
