Hi you all! I guess newbies are introducing themselves here so I'll introduce myself here as well. I'm Lily, a new mom to a very healthy baby. Unfortunately, during the course of pregnancy I have been gaining so much weight that now, i decided to lose them. Welcome to the forum. It's nice to meet another new mom.
My first question to you is are you nursing? If you are nursing then I wouldn't recommend dieting quite yet. Eat a really healthy diet and be patient because your baby will begin to consume more and more calories from nursing every day. I found that by the time my baby was four months is was losing 4 or more pounds a week without dieting, just eating really well.
My second question is how long has it been since giving birth? Most doctors recommend that you wait 6 weeks after giving birth before really getting back into exercise and dieting. This is to give your body time to heal. Everyone is different though. Maybe check with you doctor before starting to make sure it's OK.
As for losing weight after pregnancy, it takes getting more exercise and eating fewer calories. I found the best form of exercise after pregnancy was walking. If you are able, bundle up the baby and head out with the stroller every day to get in a good walk. Try to plan a route that has some hills so that you get your cardio.
If you are not nursing then you can also start lowering the amount of calories you eat every day. I always recommend tracking your calories for a week with a calorie counter, such as one you can find at fitday.com. Also, make sure to eat plenty of fruits, vegetables and lean proteins in your diet and steer clear of high calorie drinks and as many processed foods as you can. Drink plenty of water.
