  • Weight loss surgery my increase chance of preemie birthds

I came across this interesting piece of news regarding research that has made a connection between weight loss surgery and premature births. Apparently, mothers-to-be who previously had weight loss surgery are at a higher increase of premature births. Research suggests that women who have had bariatric surgery should be closely monitored during pregnancy.

The research which was conducted in Sweden also notes that it's not sure what specifically is causing the increased risk of premature births (before 37 weeks gestation). This is interesting and kind of scary news though.

Wow that is rather scary news. I wonder what happens during this procedure that puts future mothers at risk of premature labor. It sort of makes you wonder what other bad things are related to these types of surgeries...

I think that this is alarming but I don't find it altogether surprising to be perfectly honestly. Bariatric surgery is no small thing and if you're going to make alterations to your stomach or intestines, I can see this being problematic if you become pregnant. I don't know, I just don't find this shocking.

That said, I'm glad that this research was found because at least doctors can warn expecting mothers who have had this surgery about the possibility of premature labor and can closely monitor them.

That's actually quite terrifying news! I wonder why it does that! It makes me think that this type of a surgery isn't really all that safe. How could a surgery that is meant to reduce the amount of food you can eat affect a baby in the womb? I hope more research is done :(

No idea. I guess because they're tampering with stuff that's close to the womb's location? Or maybe the baby isn't receiving sufficient nutrients.
