  • How to keep off weight

I was looking through the news and I came across this interesting weight loss study. Apparently researchers from the University of Copenhagen's Faculty of Health and Sciences in Denmark discovered that when the participants in their study made certain changes to their lifestyle and maintained a disciplined diet for a full year (52 weeks), the participants developed a chemical shift in their body. Essentially what they discovered was that the hormone that stops hunger increased when the body became used to the routine of a weight-loss maintenance program.

So essentially, in order to lose weight and keep it off you need to train your body until it gets used to being a certain way. Definitely read more about this study if you're interested. It's really worth the read!

That is an interesting study. It actually makes sense that your body could undergo these changes. However, I think for the average person, following a strict diet for 52 weeks to benefit from these changes isn't practical as much as it is logical and even necessary. People want results too fast.

I agree with KellyKatt. What the study found is interesting and does make a lot of sense when you think about it...but I just can't see most people keeping up with a specific diet for a full year to get the benefit. I don't think I could do it. I'm not proud to admit that, but I think that's what a lot of our problems are. We can't stick to one thing long enough. I get discouraged so quickly.

I think this news is interesting because not only does it show that our body's can change over time when we follow the same diet for the long stretch, but also that it takes a looooong time for change to happen. The fact that people don't have the patience or dedication to stick to a diet over the long term is the result of one or two things (or both in some cases): Either the diet you're following really isn't for you because it's too extreme for your lifestyle or you're giving up. Face it guys and gals, if you really want to seriously lose weight and keep it off, it's a giant lifestyle change that you follow for life. There's no other way around it. The sooner all of us except that, the faster we'll lose weight, keep it off and live happier and healthier lives. :)
