I read this study that found that eating heavily-processed foods can cause weight gain and overeating. While I'm not surprised about the over weight thing cause that seems obvious, but I am surprised that it can cause over-eating. Did anyone else know this? The study is very interesting. I didn't know that they encourage overeating either! I also thought it was just a gaining weight issue. Wow that makes a lot of sense though because every time I eat junk, I do crave more of it, even if I don't feel well eating it! I guess it must be all the sugar and salt in it, huh?

wow this is sucky news considering it's actually kinda hard to avoid processed foods. I mean, you can definitely try to eat as many non-processed as you can, but sometimes it's just unavoidable. I wish they would figure out something that works well (health-wise and weight loss wise) for today's average American lifestyle. How to eat the "ideal" diet is just not realistic for most people.

Indeed char I agree that it would be better if there were suggestions on how we can live healthier lives that made sense to the average American lifestyle. That said, it's still up to us to make healthier choices because these options are available, they are not as expensive as everyone thinks. We simply need to work harder to make health a priority. Too many of us have made the unhealthy habit of choosing to be lazy because we feel entitled to get what we want when we want it. The problem is that what most of us want isn't necessarily what is good for us. So, yes, I feel like the government needs to do a better job in helping citizens with their health while we as citizens need to start taking responsibility for our actions, our lives and the food we choose to put in our body.

I also heard that a study found that people who ingest the same amount of calories but who get their foods from different sources also may lose weight fastr or not depending on what they ate. For instance, one group that got their calories from whole foods lost weight better than those who got the same number of calories from highly processed foods. Scientists don't know why that is yet, but that' some interesting stuff!
