I've been seeing a lot about "plogging" in the news and on social media. Is this trend actually worth looking into. Has anyone actually picked up trash while they walk? I can't imagine this being fun...

It's actually a great trend. I started doing it a month ago and have been really proud of it. It motivates me to go for a walk, I feel like I'm doing something good for myself and the environment and I've explored new areas. It's great when you head out for a walk and see what you've accomplished. I've also found a couple of really cool items haha. I mean most of it is trash and recycling, but it's amazing what some people toss!

While I think this is an interesting idea, what I'm wondering is won't stopping to pick up garbage constantly slow down your heart rate and reduce your chance of burning as many calories and fat as possible? Also, I think picking up other people's trash would seriously start to bother me after a while lol

I mean, I don't care about picking up trash, but I agree that I don't see this being a good type of workout if you want to keep your heart rate up. I would imagine that bending and stretching is great and you would burn calories, I just don't see this as being effective as brisk walking though.

Plogging is more about, not giving yourself an excuse not to exercise. It's about going walking when you really don't want to because you're by yourself, you find it boring, etc. It's a great way to exercise and do something good and productive at the same time. You'll still burn calories if you walk. Sometimes, it's not about maximizing your fat burning potential but simply moving your body. Every little bit helps, especially if you are already following a diet that is reduced in calories.

You can still get quite the workout and pickup trash. The object isn't to go somewhere where there's so much trash that all you're doing is picking it up, it's just to pick up some of it while you walk. In fact, don't even feel like you need to collect all of it, this way when you go out again you'll know there's more that you can collect. Picking up garbage is the added perk to plogging. Ultimately the goal is exercise, however.
