I just had my third baby and during the pregnancy lost 15lbs (I always loose while pregnant ). I was working out before getting pregnant but stopped while I was pregnant, just didn't have the energy. Now my baby girl is 3 mos and I'm packing on the weight. Nothing has changed routine wise, I'm running off my feet most days, why the weight gain? And what can I do to stop it and start loosing? Or at least not gain anymore. Working out is not an option at the moment. Any suggestions?

Hi Jemshads and welcome. I have never been pregnant nor had a baby so I don't have a lot of wisdom for you there, only that my friend is going through a very similar situation. Her child is about 6 months old now. It's like her metabolism has just fallen on it's face for no real reason. Maybe just aging I guess? (she is 31). In any event, she has taken to a very strict diet and doing a tone of walking. The weight is starting to come off, albeit painfully slowly. Maybe get your thyroid checked? Are you breastfeeding? I hear that burns a tone of calories. Sorry I don't have more advice to offer. Chin up and don't give up.

Don't forget that your metabolism may be a little bit haywire after going through all of the body/hormone changes that you've experienced through your pregnancy and childbirth. Also, if you stopped exercising and re-started, that would have affected your metabolism, too. That might level off in time.
It also sounds like you've had several children. Every time you have another baby it's just a bit harder to lose the weight again.
Tankini's right, though. You might want to talk with your doctor about it and check your thyroid. Can't hurt to check, right?

You should definitely address this issue to your doctor. Meanwhile, just focus on eating healthier, I do realize you need your energy, after all you have 3 kids to look after, so no fad diets. If you eat carbs eat low-glycemic carbohydrates. Slow-burning carbs, such as beans, yams and whole grains, will keep your blood sugar stable. Sugars found in some fruits, fruit juices, refined and processed foods cause wild fluctuations in insulin. Insulin bursts enhance fat storage plus they can leave you feeling starved and foraging for more to eat.
