  • TV snack suggestions

I enjoy snacking while I watch tv, especially if a game is on. I am trying hard to lose weight, but I don't want to have to cut out something I really enjoy out of my life. The snacks i love most are nachos with melted cheese, black olives, bell peppers, green onions, etc. I know that's out of bounds now, but I need some suggestions for an alternative. My girlfriend said carrot and celery sticks with ranch dressing...it's just not doing it for me. Anyone?

I know what you mean. It's not really a matter of eating something that tastes incredible, but you want to be able to munch on it over the length of a tv show or for a good part of a movie.

I know this isn't all that original, but I like to cut up a lot of veggies and then just either eat them plain, or dip them in a dressing that is low fat and low sugar (the low sugar part is the challenge).

I make sure that I have a huge glass of water next to me when I watch tv. That way, I can have a small snack, but then I still get that "oral fix" by being able to continually pick up the glass and drink as much of it as I want.

It can be plain water or I might add lemon to it. Either way, I found that as long as I start off with the small snack, I can continue with the water and be just fine. I think it's all a matter of tricking myself into thinking that I've had more than I actually have.

If you want to eat a lot of food when you watch TV, you could always just eat your lunch or supper while the tv is on. That way, you're eating the same amount, and you don't have to come up with a snack.

I like this suggestion, also I like to cut up fruit and veggies. You can't do too much damage with fruit and veggies. Also rice cakes are good as are a handful of baked chips or nuts.

If I really want to enjoy a good snack, just making it at home instead of buying something processed can make it friendly enough to a diet.

For example, I love taco chips and salsa or guacamole, but obviously that's banned from my life while I'm still fat. So instead, I get the lowest calorie whole grain tortillas that I can find and I put them on a cookie sheet and toss them under the broiler until they get crispy. Then I break them up to chip-size.

I make my salsa or guacamole myself. Just chop up the veggies and toss in the spices, and there you have it. I actually like the taste more than the type I get from a bag and a jar, so it's really worth it.

Instead of high calories fatty nachos why not replace it with granola bars, oatmeal bars or whole wheat cereal bars. It is rich in fiber which can help you lose weight fast.
