  • No sweets for a month help weight loss?

I am going to start a goal that throughout all of November, I will not eat any sweets. (chocolate, brownies, ice cream, any type of candy). I am very active, I run 5 miles almost every day and I play soccer. I drink only water. So do you think I will lose any weight? If so, how much?? I need to know if this will be worth doing!

If you normally eat sweets then yes I believe you will lose weight because your body will not be getting all those extra calories any more. Just don't replace the sweets with anything else i.e. carbs or other things such as fast food. I can't say for sure how much you will lose but it takes a deficit of 3500 calories per to lose one pound so you can work out the math of how much candy you used to eat and if you can eat less then 3500 calories per week then you will lose at least one pound per week.

a lot of diets actually suggest that you start this way because it starts your body on certain cycles that make calorie and fat burning a lot more effective. just make sure that when you reach the end of your month, you gradually add sugars back in again and be careful about what you eat so you don't damage your efforts. Good luck!

I know this family where both the mother and daughter do not touch sugar (Mom is about 40-45, daughter is 16). And even if it's a special occasion they won't touch the cake. That to me is powerful. I don't know how they do it, but they both look amazing. They are super slim with great skin it's not fair lol. So I was talking to the mom, her name is Shelly, and she said that she lost about 20lbs after cutting out the refined sugars and junk food and she's never felt better in her entire life. She says for her it's not worth putting it in her body anymore and the daughter is following in the same footsteps. I wish somebody taught me that at that age. They are pretty active too though in that they have a farm and lots of horses so I am sure that helps too.

If you have the willpower, that's a great way to do it. I can admit that I'm not capable of keeping up something like that. I can maintain it for a few days at a time, but not past that long. I'm not saying that I need to dive into a bowl of candy, but I do like the odd sweet treat now and then. I applaud you for your decision, I wish you the very best of luck!

I can't do it either - short term only and then I usually crash and crash bad because I just binge out, I found it's just better for me to have that stuff but only in moderation...

That's exactly what happens to me when I try to do a diet like that. I do wish the very best successes to anyone else who tries, though.

lisasctt4, if you're successful (fingers crossed), let us know about it and give your tips so that we can learn from you!

I definitely agree that by not eating sweets anymore you lose weight. Most sweet food is high in saturated fat as they usually include butter, whole milk, and heavy cream.
You should go for healthier products to satisfy your sweet tooth because unsatisfied cravings can sometimes lead to depression causing the person to eat more thus gain more weight. For instance, Instead of eating an ice cream cone that contains 417 calories per serving, try a low-calorie frozen yogurt which contains 105 calories per serving.

That's a great suggestion. I too have trouble cutting out sweets all together. Moderation is key.
