So is it better to eat 5 smaller meals per day or are the three regular meals a day more effective for weight loss?

Lydia- you have to remember that losing weight, (as well as gaining weight) is just simply mathematics. If you eat more calories then your body can burn, you will gain weight. If you eat less calories then your body requires, you will lose weight. It's all about calories in versus calories out. However you take in those calories is totally up to you. If eating 5 smaller meals instead of 3 larger ones is easier for you, then do that. It's trial and error, but at the end of the day it's whatever works for you as an individual.

as long as you keep the same number of calories, some people find it's better to eat more meals throughout the day. It has to do with the amount of sugar in your bloodstream. It's called glucose when it's in your blood and that's your body's energy. If you eat three bigger meals, your body will have three big amounts of glucose to use as energy every day. This means that if you don't use it up, it'll store it as fat so it'll have energy later in case you don't eat again. If you eat smaller amounts five times, you'll be burning it as you eat it so there's less chance for fat storage.

Best of luck LydiaPurple! Remember to give yourself some time to get used to the smaller meals. If you're used to feeling super full when you eat, then you might find this a bit surprising. I always remind myself that I'm eating so that I get the right nutrition and don't feel starving any more. It took a few weeks to get used to. My goal used to be to eat until i could barely move, so I've come a long way ha ha Oh, and drinking lots of water helps!
