  • Going on a road trip & don't want to gain any weight!

I am going on a road trip in two weeks for 6 days with my girlfriends and I am terrified at the weight I might gain. I know how my friends work, they stop for fast food for every meal, stop for ice cream, go out for big breakfasts's, eat gas station food, have chips in the car and the list goes ON! It is going to be so hard and tempting for me I feel doomed already. Any ideas on how to help me stay away from all that stuff? And don't say "well just don't stop at those places" because that just won't fly with these girls. I am on my own here!

Ah yes, the summer time road trip with friends- the ultimate test of will power. The key here is to be prepared and think ahead. You know know all these junk food stops are coming. I have been there. An this is how I handled them:

If you stop at McDonalds, they now have apple slices on their menu. Order that so you don't feel left out and are kept busy so you are not tempted to ask for fries. Most fast food places have an option for a grilled chicken burger. Get that, with no cheese and throw away the bun. Subway- always get them to make you a salad instead of a sandwich. They can add grilled chicken on top and order the sweet onion dressing. Gas stations usually have a dried fruit/trail mix section. Stay away from the nuts but grab a bag of dried fruit. Stay away from all other isles. Places like Denny's, Rikkis, & Ihop. Do not order the breakfast sampler. All those places offer fruit and oatmeal options. They also usually offer lunch/dinner all day so if you don't want to do the fruit thing get one of their salads with the dressing on the side. The salads are usually not the best things so you won't eat it all, but it will keep your fork busy while your friends are stuffing their faces with waffles and whipped cream. And lastly, the junk food binges at night. Nibs licorice are your friends. Pop a few of those, they take a while to chew and satisfies a sweet tooth. Hopefully those tips will help. Good luck and Godspeed!
