  • How to Eat Healthy but cheap to lose weight?

Looking for tips for eating healthy to lose weight without spending a fortune. Food prices are so high! I used to rely on chicken but now it's so expensive I don't even buy it anymore. Tips to still get nutrients and lose weight but not break the bank? Thanks!

Right now, with meat prices so high, I've started going a bit vegetarian. I guess flexitarian. I'm leaning on beans and lentils a lot more for protein. They're actually super good and they're still very cheap. It's cheap and easy if you get cans and even cheaper if you go for dried ones and just soak them overnight. I hate soaking beans, so I do huge batches and then freeze portions. All the convenience of canned but at pennies per meal.

That's just it. Oddly, I try to get chicken meals when I'm getting take-out, because it's cheaper to get it there than at the grocery store!

I find that if I get frozen stuff, it's cheaper with the same nutrition. Weird that it's like that when they have to pay to keep it colder but I'll take it. Also, shop the sale items that are nearly at their due date, then just freeze them so you can have them whenever you want.

Lentils!!! Combine with beans if you want. Lentils are so cheap and so filling and nutritious!

Shop sales and be strategic about what you buy. If you're willing to do a touch more work in your kitchen, for example, you'll save money. For instance, a whole chicken costs less than buying all the parts of the chicken that have already been cut up for you. So buy a whole chicken and cut it up yourself, then freeze the cuts separately so you can use them just as you would if you'd bought separate chicken breasts and thighs and so on. Wait until whole chickens go on sale and then save big. Same goes for salads. Buy lettuce, carrots etc instead of a bagged salad kit and you'll pay a fraction of the price.
