What are the excuses you tell yourself that prevent you from losing weight? We all do it and I'm wondering how many of us tell ourselves the same thing. For me, I always tell myself that I'll start dieting tomorrow or make better food choices after some event. That's silly though, because there never really is an ideal time to start making better diet choices and exercising more. Sure, there are times when we can cheat a little during holidays, but you can't wait to start making better health choices, regardless of what is going on in your life. You need to exercise control over your diet. I've stopped waiting for the "right" time and now I just follow a healthy diet and make everything else in my life work into it, instead of the other way around. Just thought I'd share, in case this helps anyone else who might be struggling with excuses.

i'm never really waiting for the right time, I'm the person who is always waiting for a holiday to be over or after a vacation, etc. I agree with you though. That's just an excuse not to start now, which is what we should be doing any time we make the decision to change our lifestyles.

I'm also guilty of waiting and I'm guilty of cheating with my diet. Like, I know I should only eat two cookies, but I eat four instead and tell myself that tomorrow I won't eat any at all...but that doesn't work.

I always tell myself that it won't hurt if I eat just one more. It can be just one more of anything. I have serious problem saying no to second helpings. It's not even that I feel hungry, I've just made it a habit to want more.

This really does seem to be a problem for you Maggie. I'm only saying that because you commented twice. :( I feel bad that you struggle like this. I also have issues with eating more than one helping. I have found though that one of the best ways to stop giving myself excuses is to focus my mind on other things. So, instead of giving into what I desire, I focus on what I need to do instead. It's definitely easier said than done, but this doesn't mean that you shouldn't do it. Willpower is a constant struggle, but as long as you know you have a choice, you can always choose the option that you know is best for you :)

Not making excuses is a good tip and you're right that it's something you shouldn't wait to do. It's something we need to work on all the time. When we stop making excuses, we'll start making new and healthier habits.
