  • Is meat good for you at all?

It seems these days that if you want to lose weight, everyone's pretty much saying to become a vegetarian. I do get that being a vegetarian can be super-healthy for you and you can lose weight if you do it right, but what I want to know is is meat truly that bad for you? I get that you should eat it in moderation and I'm not talking about meat infused with nitrates, bacon or hot dogs here. I mean like chicken, beef, the fresh stuff you get from the butcher. Is it all bad? Does it offer no benefit at all?

Lean meat isn't bad for you, white chicken, and lean cuts of beef, but only in moderation. It does have nutrients, vitamins and minerals, Meat is also more filling than a lot of other foods, in my humble opinion as well. That said, the major trouble is that so much of the meat that you can buy today has a lot of bad stuff in it and its' high in fat, etc. etc. Plus, how you prepare it, how much you eat of it and how you serve it all matters to how nutritious it is for you, too.

Sure! It's got vitamins and nutrients. The way I look at meat in terms of health is like a nice glass of red wine or dark chocolate. Enjoy it in moderation to get the most health benefits from it :)

Meat really isn't the enemy to your health or your weight loss effort. Of course, eating too much of it isn't good for you and can be a problem for your weight, but the same thing could be said about an avacador or over-eating fruit or any other food. Eat a balanced diet that is healthy. It's not just a matter of what you consume, but how much of it you consume and how frequently.

Okay, well this is good to know. It just always seems that everything you read or see now, meat is really labeled as the enemy. Maybe that's just me, but it really seems to fall into the "junk food" category these days and I'm not just talking about bacon and burgers, either. I mean eating meat as a whole. I don't know, maybe I'm the only one who feels like this. Perhaps it's because I have too many vegetarian friends lol.

Some meat is very healthy (again, when enjoyed in moderation). Some meat is very rich in nutrients and I personally also find it a lot more filling (at least a filling that lasts long) than a giant plate of vegetables (that said, still eat the giant plate of vegetables lol). Some meats to add to your diet in moderation include lean cuts of white chicken, pork tenderloin, roast beef, turkey, lamb shank, and pork chops.
