  • whole foods for weight loss

I’ve been considering switching to a whole foods diet to help with health and weight loss. It’s on the news all the time that this is the healthy way to do things. But it looks like a lot more work than being able to occasionally come home and toss a frozen pizza in the oven.

I was wondering if anyone else has tried a switch like this and actually observed results that suggest that it would be worthwhile. Any thoughts?

    Thanks!

I've done a partial switch. I'm about 90 percent whole foods. It's WAY easier to lose weight becuase you automatically cut a lot of the things that bloat you up and stop you from getting the energy you need to exercise.

When I started doing this, at first everything tasted funny because I was used to eating so much salt. But then after a few weeks, my tastes changed. They changed a lot!

I started adding herbs and spices, and over time I realized that vegetables, on their own, taste really great. You just have to break the dependence on salt first.

Out of curiosity, what is it about oats that make them best out of all of the cereals for burning calories? Are they better than all grains including quinoa?

I think that oats are really great because they are cheap, really high in fiber, and they have nutrients in them that help you to keep your blood pressure down. They are even reasonable when it comes to cholesterol levels. I think that those are some wonderful features in a grain. As long as you don't eat a huge amount, you can get yourself feeling filled up and not load up on calories at the same time.

It's true. And whole grains, fruits, and vegetables should make up the majority of what you eat. most of your plate should be made up of those things. But don't forget about lean proteins. If you forget to have a roasted chicken breast, a cup of mixed beans, a serving of egg whites, or another great source of protein, you'll only do yourself a disservice. You really need those nutrients or you'll end up hurting your health and weight loss in the long run. The key is to get it from whole foods and not a processed package.
