  • Frustrating Social Events Making it Difficult

I have been making progress and have about 15 lbs. to go (out of 25 to lose).

What's wrecking it for me is what I call "eating events." I do great on my own, but experience setbacks in social eating. Very frustrating.

For example, here's the last 7 days: On Sunday we celebrated a friend's birthday party at a place with beer, salad, and pizza - all you can eat.

A friend took me to an Italian place on Tuesday - tons of pasta.

Yesterday a group of us went to a Peruvian buffet.

Tomorrow it's a big food and beer party. Next week it will be something else.

This kind of stuff makes me want to move to where I don't know anybody. I know I am supposed to be in control, and no one is holding a gun to my head, but it's easier said than done in these kinds of situations.

Anyone else deal with this kind of stuff?

I sooo hear you social situations are the WORST when you are trying to lose weight. Honestly, if your will power is the shits, sometimes you have to say no and stay in. It sucks, but night after night of wreckless eating will destroy your progress. One thing that I do, no matter what restaurant I go to, I always order a salad with a vinigrette dressing on the side. So I can still go out and be social, but I am not going to wreck several days of hard work by my going out. I go easy on the booze too, not more then one or two small glasses of wine. It's very hard. I totally understand where you are coming from.

Simple. Just eat little to nothing unless there's something healthy on the menu. It's sort of like attending a party with alcohol. You don't necessarily need to drink to have a good time. All because everybody else is doing it doesn't mean you have to.

Even cutting the alcohol out all by itself can save you hundreds of calories. so if you are a little bit naughty with your food selection, it's still not as bad as long as you just drink water with it (Don't drink soda, either, that's another calorie disaster).
