  • Some advice please?

I devised for myself a simple work out because i got to a point where i was around 17 stone. I have been doing this routine for a while now and lowered my weight to around 15 stone last time i checked but i have an important question, when should i rest my body ?

I won't pretend to know the terminology of the things i do in the routine but it's something like this -

    Warm up.
A series of movements with Nunchaku, each to the count of 10, single and double Nunchaku (around 10 mins).
Lift barbell, 2 sets of 10.
A series of movements such as invisible skipping, side to side 'skipping' ala Bruce Lee, run on spot.
Lift barbell, 2 sets of 10, different lift.
    Etc...
    Etc...
Finish with 10 minute Nunchaku movement sets.

Overall it takes around 40 minutes and i have been doing this every day but i read somewhere that you should exercise 1 day, rest 1 day, exercise 1 day and so on but i think this just applies to body builders ? I changed my diet drastically too so that helped, i am one of those that can quite comfortably eat a large family sized packet of crisps and chocolate in one sitting ha,ha, now i usually just have cereal, peanut butter sandwiches, fruit and Quorn for the Protein.

So, yes, i am ok doing this everyday or should i 'take days off' as it where ?

    Thanks.

I am not an expert in exercise but I read the same thing that you did, that if you are working out your muscles with barbells, etc, then you need to give them healing time. These types of workouts actually do a form of "damage" to the muscle, which heals and causes it to grow larger. But if you don't give adequate healing time, you are actually working against yourself. Instead of doing one day on, one day off, try working different muscle groups on different days. This way, you'll never work the same muscle group two days in a row. Or, do your strength training one day, and cardio the next, and then back again.

    That's my non-expert advice :)

That's pretty much what I've heard. If you're not sure about how you should be exercising so that you have the right rest and recovery time, then it's probably a very good idea for you to talk to a personal trainer. They have them at gyms and you can probably talk to one even if you're not a member (though you'll still have to pay him or her for the time and advice). If you don't want that, at least talk to your doctor. It sounds like you should really be discussing this with an expert so you can avoid risking getting injured.

Once you understand that equation, you're ready to set your weight-loss goals and make a plan for reaching them. Remember, you don't have to do it alone. Talk to your doctor, family and friends for support. Also, plan smart: Anticipate how you'll handle situations that challenge your resolve and the inevitable minor setbacks.
