  • Can I still do yoga with a knee injury?

Hey everyone. I recently injured my knee and I was wondering if I can still do yoga? Will I end up causing more harm than good? What should I do?

It's very simple Jan. Bring your concerns to your doctor. He or she will be able to instruct you about what exercises you should or should not be doing while your knee heals. You really need to be careful that you don't injure your knee further.

It is likely that your doctor will provide you with special exercises designed to help restrengthen the tendons and muscles in the area. And the exercises you do are likely to start off slow and then gradually increase in intensity. I would avoid yoga until you feel 100% or your doctor gives you the go-ahead.

Treehuggertodd is right Jan. The only person who can really answer your question is your doctor. It's just not worth the risk of going ahead with yoga when it could only make your injury worse.

I wouldn't. At least not Yoga that involves your lower half. Since it's all about balance, and you're lacking balanced due to a busted leg, I'd look for better exercises for the time being. I would talk to your doc but also search for stuff on youtube.

Thanks everyone. My knee is actually feeling a little better now. I decided to just refrain from doing yoga. I've actually found a couple of youtube videos for gentle knee exercises that I've been doing. They help to strengthen the muscles and my knee feels a lot better. So, it turns out I didn't really need yoga after all :)
