  • Where does Yoga come from

Where did Yoga originate? How long as it existed? What was it's original purpose and how many forms of it are there? Sorry for all the questions, I've just gotten really curious about it lately.

Um...I'm gonna guess India? Correct me if I'm wrong but I think it has Hindu roots. Either way, I'm pretty sure it originated in Asia and I think it's really old.

Haha took your advice and yeah, it's India! I had not idea it's been practiced for 5,000 years! Yoga is definitely not a fad LOL

Okay this is kinda off topic but has anyone else noticed that people use Namaste inappropriately?? I took a Tai Chi class and the instructor ended the session with "Namaste". Tai Chi is not Yoga and it doesn't even come from the same region!!

Wow, yeah! I've heard people throw the word "Namaste" around a lot in classes that have nothing to do with Yoga. Just because an exercise is slow moving and improves flexibility and focuses on meditation does not qualify it for Yoga.
