  • Situps vs jogging

I'm trying to use my time to its best advantage and lose weight as fast as possible (without getting unhealthy). Most of my weight is around the middle and I was wondering if situps and crunches are better than jogging, cycling and other aerobic activities. So I guess my question is: what's better, targeted exercises or aerobic exercises?

Now I am no expert on this by any means, but I think cardio is what you want to do in the beginning. It's what burns the most fat and then do sit ups later for toning and sculpting the abs. Running, swimming, jogging are all great cardio exercises.

I was told the exact same thing when I first signed up to the gym and I was given my routine. Also, if you're not really in shape yet, swimming is one of the best cardio exercises for getting started because it helps you build your muscles without being too hard on your joints, then you can build to other exercises (jogging, cycling, etc) and target specific muscles for toning your abs, building your arms, and so on.
