  • working out AND gaining weight - ahhhhh

HELLO ALL.. IM new here and hope to find some answers about what's going on ???

To start with, i'm a 5'-4'' 167 pound bombshell who has been trying to lose get her goal weight of 130lbs.
Christmas and new year's was, well honestly a diet breaker, and i freaked out when i found i was up about 10lbs when it was all done. so as part motivation, part punishment, i bought an elliptical trainer for my apartment. Ive had it about 3 weeks and have been on it 6 times a week for 1 hr a day and sweating like crazy. It says i'm burning between 850 and 1050 cal during my work out..

I've also gone back to my diet - trying to stick to healthy eating - testing some of the recipes at www.weight-loss-center.net. My bod is looking even finer, i am feeling great and i would like to say that the elliptical was a good idea but... when I stepped on the scales today IVE GAINED 2lbs??????? WHAT HAPPENED??? Im burning all those calories, eating right - i'm following the rules. Why am i still gaining weight???????

hey, jennybean - sounds like you've been working out a lot. I hope your still going at it.

I think the reason you gained weight is because you put on muscle. Don't forget that if you are working out in a frenzy, like you were, you are going to loose fat, but also put on muscle. Muscle is more dense than fat and weighs more. So perhaps this can explain the gain.

Let me know how it's going - I'd like to know - jimmy ;D

Gaining muscle weight is nothing to worry about. What we want here is fat loss and not weight loss. Those additional muscles you gained will actually help you to burn more calories and result in a toner, better looking you.

I've had the same thing. If your diet and exercise hasn't gone down, it is almost certainly muscle gain, which is a good thing unless your goal was simply losing pounds instead of losing fat.
