  • Do shoes matter?

Hi everyone! I'm wondering if the type of shoes that I wear when I exercise matter. I know that running shoes are probably best, but is there anything specific that I should be looking for? I don't want to cause more harm than good.

    Thanks in advance

Yes, the shoes that you wear do matter. Different shoes are made for different activities. For instance, if you do a lot of walking you may want to invest in a good walking shoe and not a running shoe - which is designed for running (hence the name). Different kinds of shoes offer different types of support to your foot, ankle and leg, depending on the activities you're doing. Also, you will want to make sure you obtain the right arch support for your foot, depending on if you naturally have a flat arch, high arch or normal arch. If you're really not sure, talk to an expert.

Shoes are important. That said, I personally find that running shoes are more comfortable for me for walking compared to walking shoes. I find walking shoes way to stiff, personally. It's important that you just head to a sports store and try on a whole whack of shoes and walk around in them. The shoe needs to fit well and be comfortable. Don't settle for anything less than ultimate comfort and support.

I agree with you Anne. I like running shoes better than walking shoes for walking too!

Yes they matter! I would also recommend you look into barefoot running shoes. I've heard that a lot of people like those because it's like running on your natural foot.

I agree with everyone else, whose already said that shoes matter. Of course they matter! How could you think for a second that the type of footwear you have on your feet wouldn't in some way impact your performance? The right shoes give you balance, stability, security, comfort, and shock absorption. The wrong shoes can seriously mess up your feet, ankles, calves, knees and hips.

Definitely make sure you wear the right shoes for whatever exercise you engage in. This may mean buying more than one pair. Also, don't settle for any cheap pair either. You'll want to get the best your money can buy. This isn't about fashion, it's about your body health.

Also, while there's nothing wrong with searching for shoes online, I highly recommend you head to sports store and try on the shoes you want to buy and talk to someone who can help you find what's best for you.
