  • Is Contrave better than Qysmia?

I know both Contrave and Qysmia are newish diet pills, especially compared to Adipex. Which one of these is better than the other and are either of stronger than Adipex?

I don't think it is. I think when it comes to diet drugs, it's a matter of finding one that you can tolerate. They're all pretty potent and can cause nasty side effects if not used properly. Also, none of the studies for these drugs has ever produced amazing findings in terms of weight loss. They definitely can help you shed the pounds but ultimately it's more about finding one that you can stand and that will work well with the conventional weight loss strategies you intend to follow.

I have to agree with Gina. I don't think any of them are better in terms of their efficacy. It's more a matter of which pill you can tolerate the best and that works best for you. Someone might find they do better on Contrave while someone else may do better on Qysmia, while you might do better on Adipex, etc. It's important to talk to your doctor about your options and find out more about these pills from the professionals who prescribe them IMO.

Why do they keep developing and approving new diet drugs if the new ones aren't really any better than the old ones? I don't get the purpose or the point. Is it honestly just to keep people happy because it's something new? If that's the case, I think the FDA needs to rethink its strategy and start taking into account people's health instead of just giving into the demand for releasing a new product.

The really do. The entire obesity treatment system needs to be re-vamped. It can't just be about pills. It requires therapies and teaching people how to live better. The answer to everything can't be to just take a drug.

I think I would personally choose Contrave. It freaks me out that with Qysmia they've combined phentermine with an anticonvulsant drug (topiramate)...

There's an anticonvulsant in it??? What about Contrave? Is that Phentermine mixed with something else, too?

Nope. Contrave doesn't contain phentermine. It is a mixture of naltrexone HCl and bupropion HCl they are supposed to help with controlling cravings. Naltrexone has been used for years to treat alcohol and opioid dependence and burporipion has been used to treat depression and smoking cessation.
