Is there an actual non-prescription alternative to phentermine and adipex. I mean a legit one, not just all those herbal supplements that claim to be alternatives. If not, why haven't they made one yet? I mean, they made Alli for Xenical...so why not Phentermine?

No there is no official Adipex/phentermine alternative like there is for Xenical/orlistat (Alli). Any over-the-counter diet pill product that claims to be an alternative to phentermine or adipex is lying for the simple fact that one does not exist. Herbal supplements cannot be an non-prescription alternative to a prescription drug. It's why Alli is an actual OTC version of Xenical because it does contain the drug orlistat, it just has it in a much lower dosage. There is no non-prescription diet pill that has phentermine in it (even in a smaller dose).

Nope, there isn't one. I think it's because they probably can't get a low enough dose of phentermine without there being side effects or maybe because it's not effective enough to really make a difference. That said, I think it's more of a safety concern. I mean, someone, somewhere must have tried to make a nonprescription version. It's been around for far too long for no one not to consider it, especially since they've done a nonprescription version for orlistat.

I agree with Beth. Phentermine has likely never been in a nonprescription dose due to it's potential addiction side effects. They might have tested it and found that no matter how much they lower the dosage, they can't guarantee that there won't be a problem. At least, that's my guess anyway. Still, it has to be something along those lines or it would have been approved as an OTC years ago.

It sucks though, because I imagine that it could probably beneficial for some people. I mean, I know that caffeine can help with energy and things, but phentermine helps to curb appetite, too. Who knows, maybe one day...
