I read that taking hoodia can damage your liver! Is this true?

  • #2
Yes. There have been reports that it can cause liver damage. Some studies have found that participants have also suffered form headache, and gastrointestinal issues including nausea, vomiting, diarrhea and constipation. Hoodia may also negatively interact with other medications and may prevent them from working properly.

That said, do keep in mind that more research needs to be conducted on this substance to prove its effects - both good and bad.

There really isn't anything good to say about Hoodia. It seems that either it doesn't work at all or if you do get effects from it, they're bad. I honestly believe that the only way that Hoodia is going to suppress your appetite is if you believe that it will like a placebo.

Wow...I just thought it didn't work. I didn't realize that it could harm you, too...

It is true, but the likelihood of that happening is very slim. You'd likely have to ingest a lot of the stuff and it probably needs to be pure. For the most part I really think the issue with Hoodia, as Speeddemon pointed out is that there it's likely not to cause any effects at all and won't work.

It really is one of those ingredients that has been celebrated way too much without having any solid evidence behind it to prove what it can and can't do.

Okay, I think I'm just off Hoodia now. I was actually expecting the response that "it doesn't cause side effects and it doesn't work" I didn't know that it CAN actually be bad for you. No more Hoodia for me.
