  • Is African mango like hoodia

Is African Mango like Hoodia? I know it's not the same plant, but isn't this also a herb that tribesmen have used for centuries to combat hunger during long hunts or am I confusing the two and thinking of something else? Also, is one better than the other or more proven to work than the other?

I think they are both supposed to be appetite suppressants but they are two very different herbs. That said, they one thing that they do have in common is that neither one of them has been proven for helping with or leading to fat loss.

No. They are two different herbs. I think African Mango does more than suppress appetite, too. That said, just like Lia pointed out, neither one of them has really been proven to be all that beneficial for weight loss and I don't even think that research has found them to even suppress appetite all that much. It might be better if herbs for weight loss had benefits based on science and not century old stories...

Does it really matter if they are like each other? Neither one of them actually works to cause weight loss...

I have to agree. I mean, yes, they are two entirely different herbs. They aren't the same and they shouldn't be thought of as the same. That said, in terms of their supposed effects, they are supposed to both help with appetite suppression, but neither have ever been scientifically proven to provide this effect in any way that leads to weight loss or long-term measurable weight loss.

The point being, even they may help you to not feel hungry, this doesn't mean that this effect will be of any benefit to you. Plus, to make matters worse, just as the effects of these herbs are not really known or understood, this also means, it is not known if they are safe to take or what they might do to your body if taken over the long term.

Personally, I think they are just herbs with a lot of unsubstantiated hype with no real science to backup any of the weight loss claims. I would avoid them.

Okay. This is interesting. So essentially they are both supposed to suppress appetite, they are both unproven, but at the same time they aren't entirely disproven either...so it's sort of a use at your own discretion kind of herbs. Also, if I'm being honest, I think that African Mango looks more interesting to me than Hoodia.

Neither one is really any good in my humble opinion Tammybear. It's not so much that the herbs themselves suck, but you just don't know what the companies who are using them are actually including in their formula.
