  • Xenical vs. Alli

What's the difference between Xenical vs. Alli? They both have the same ingredient, but one's prescription and one's over the counter.

I think the difference is in the amount of Orlistat (the ingredient makes up Xenical) that is in Alli. I think there's only a tiny amount of it in Alli, which is why you don't need a prescription.

I've been reading a lot of reviews of the two lately and I've noticed that Xenical has a lot of people who say that it's effective but that there are a lot of side effects that are pretty gross, but at the same time Alli is disappointing a lot of people because they're hoping for results like Xenical, but it just doesn't quite reach that level. I suppose that's because it doesn't have as much of that key active ingredient.

Alli is not nearly as strong as Xenical. It just uses a tiny amount of the ingredient to pretend it can do what the prescription drug can, when it can't.

It just depends on how strong you need it to be

I like alli because it means you don't have to be completely rigid about your eating. The orilistat ingredient doesn't differentiate between good fats and bad fats. It just stops you from absorbing fats as a whole. So if I want to have a diet that includes some good fats, Xenical is too strong and means that I will have to go to the bathroom a lot. Alli lets you have more fats before those repercussions happen.

I never thought of it that way. I'm used to thinking "more is more" with diet pills. I suppose there is still something to say about a "less is more" attitude in some cases, too!

How much do they cost in comparison to one another? Is Alli a lot cheaper than Xenical because it's non prescription and it has a lot less of the drug in it?
